Ever wondered how the designers of your favorite video games work their magic? Put down controllers and dive into Scratch, a beginner-friendly coding platform developed by MIT that allows kids to make stories, games, and animations! Discover how to set the
scene with fantastic backdrops, sound effects, and dialogue! And, learn how to make your 2D character move by creating a polished walk cycle! Gamers will learn the basics of character development and create a video game sample to share with friends and family. Come “crack the code” of video games, and unleash creativity! (8 weeks)
Equipment needed: Students will need to bring a computing device (laptop, MacBook, or Chromebook) to each class session. Portable hand-held devices such as iPads are strongly discouraged, as Scratch’s website may not calibrate properly. The device should have an Internet browser that is compatible with Scratch (Google Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge). The instructor will have 2-3 spare devices available, as a precautionary measure.
