In the United States, around 3 million older adults are treated in emergency departments annually for fall-related injuries. This program is intended for active and healthy adults who want to improve their balance; reduce the fear of falling; and learn how to fall safely.
Participants first master basic movements and progress to more complex balance and safe falling skills. Training occurs in a group setting but is personalized as participants practice only those movements he or she can safely and comfortably perform.
Every session includes balance training designed to enhance the body’s ability to sense its position in space (proprioception) and the feeling of movement of the limbs (kinesthesia) with the goals of preventing falls and reducing the fear of falling. Participants also practice well-established techniques on how to take a fall safely. (8 weeks)
