See how the seemingly impossible is achieved with BlocksCAD, a web-based tool that introduces kids to 3D modeling through blocks-based coding! In this class, you will learn the foundations of coding to create digital files and transform one of them into a real object that you can hold in your hands! You will explore key principles of computer-aided design (CAD) by manipulating simple geometric shapes in a 3D environment to make lots of amazing projects, like a robot, fidget toy, and keychain. While you’re having fun creating all sorts of unique designs, you’ll also learn programming techniques such as loops and sequencing. Coding doesn’t have to be complicated, come join the fun and get creative with BlocksCAD! Equipment needed: Students will need to bring their own Internet-accessible computing device (laptop, MacBook, or Chromebook) to each class session. Portable hand-held devices such as iPads are strongly discouraged, as BlocksCAD’s website will not calibrate properly. The device should have an Internet browser that is compatible with BlocksCAD (Google Chrome, Safari, or Mozilla Firefox). The instructor will have 2-3 spare devices available, as a precautionary measure. Each student will receive one complimentary 3D print of their choosing after class. (8 weeks)
